The Early Timber History of Jones County

The JCGHO held its first meeting of the new year on Saturday, January 24, at the Laurel-Jones County Library from 10:00 until12:00. George Bassi, Executive Director of the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, was the speaker. Considered by locals to be THE unofficial historian of Jones County, Bassi's presentation, The Early Timber History of Jones County, traced the development of the timber industry in the region and its impact on the development of the county. His presentation included a slideshow of images from the late 19th and early 20th centuries which was greatly enjoyed by the over thirty in attendance at the meeting.
