Jones County Genealogical & Historical Organization
JCGHO will be hosting their monthly meeting on Saturday, March 23, at 10:15 am. The meeting will be held at the Laurel-Jones County Library, 530 Commerce St. Laurel MS. The guest speaker will be Jonathan Puckett. Jonathan's bio: An English and History double major at the University of Southern Mississippi, Jonathan Puckett hails from Jackson, Mississippi and became interested in genealogy from an early age.
Mr. Puckett compiled two volumes of family history and coordinated three family reunions while in high school, from which he graduated Valedictorian in 2016. He currently works at the McCain Library and Archives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, as well as acts as a freelance researcher for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Mr. Puckett’s research interests lead him abroad in 2017, when he studied medieval literature and history at the University of Keele in England.
His genealogical and archival experiences have been featured in such places as The Wall Street Journal, and his passions include interconnections between literature and history as well as archival preservation. He has won numerous awards for his writing, and he is particularly excited about tactics that engage the community in archival practices. Mr. Puckett is currently the president of the Southern Miss Student Archivists and is looking forward to an archival internship this summer at the Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio.
As always, the JCGHO meetings are open to the public.
